An exceptional mid Victorian signet ring with lobster armour band and cushion shaped face complete with a heraldic intaglio seal
and a large barrel clasp adorned with fine applied cannetille work
but bears French import marks meaning it was most likely first retailed in Paris
on account of his great size and strength
but eventually evolved to include stones coming out of the African mines and cut in the old style cushion shape

Fully helmeted, he carries a shield with fleur de lis heraldic emblem, also appearing on his head crest. The stone is sardonyx, carved through a white band to render the intaglio in the red stone beneath. The ring dates from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1870, modelled in 15 karat gold.
