Turkey, Ottoman Empire. An Order of the Medjidie, Commander, c. 1880 consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac 1871 by Kaiser Wilhelm IInstituted in 1851. In silver and enamel, star has seven triple quills with small crescents and stars between each quill, obverse shows Sultan Abdul Mejids royal cipher surrounded by an inscription, inclusive of crescent moon suspension 79 mm (h) x 60 mm (w), weighs 34. 7 grams, on original striped ribbon, hallmarked on reverse, excellent 19th century example, very fine condition. Footnote: The Order of the Medjidie was a military and knightly order
